Philippians 4:8 (NLT) — “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Not all technology is bad, and social media can be used for good. But let’s be honest—most of the time, scrolling through platforms like TikTok, Facebook, or YouTube doesn’t leave us filled with peace or closer to God. One of the subtle dangers of constant scrolling is that we often don’t filter what we allow into our minds. Our guard is down, and before we know it, our thoughts are shaped more by the algorithm than by the Word.
Paul challenges us to intentionally fix our thoughts on what is good, lovely, and pure. That kind of focus doesn’t happen by accident. In fact, in the next verse (Philippians 4:9), he encourages us to practice what we’ve learned. And scrolling is a kind of practice too—just not usually a helpful one.
If we’re in the habit of filling our minds with things we later have to fight off, we’re setting ourselves up for a struggle. What we put in our minds matters. So today, let’s pause and ask: What am I practicing? And is it helping me become more like Christ?
Prayer: God, help me to be more mindful of what I allow into my mind and heart. Teach me to dwell on what is true and beautiful. Give me the wisdom to set good boundaries and the desire to seek things that draw me closer to You. Amen.
