“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.“1 John 1:7
In my growing up years I spent a great deal of time thinking of ways to be sneaky and get away with things. This is something that I really worked hard on. What a shame that is – to spend work and time investing in how to be wrong, how to be deceitful, and how to take advantage of others. I could have given people practical tips on “how to get away with doing wrong” or “how to be a misguided person.” That’s a terrible reflection of the darkness of this world.
This verse in 1st John 7 is a reminder to me that we all need to have some reminders and practical tips for how to walk in the Light of Jesus Christ. Here are 5 ideas that help me:
1. Having a good portion of the music I listen to be reminders to me of the goodness and grace of God.
2. Have a verse that on a nightstand, on the kitchen counter, or on the bathroom mirror for an entire month that I read every day and remind me of the goodness of God.
3. Be generous with my finances – giving to church and other ministries that share about Jesus and during Christmas giving a little extra to church and some missionaries.
4. During Christmas having a manger/nativity set and taking the time for a couple of minutes several times during the month and appreciating the King of Kings coming to earth.
5. Use my time an invest in the work of God, especially in December. I want to not just be generous in my finances , but generous with my time: serving at a Christmas event, visiting a hospital, police station, fire station, sheriff’s office and simply saying, “you guys are tremendous thank you. I pray that you are safe”.
