“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” — Micah 6:8
This verse is simple to understand but not always easy to live out. Acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly may seem straightforward—until we find ourselves frustrated with a difficult driver or stuck on the phone with tech support. Even if we don’t lash out, our hearts can harbor anger. Mercy calls us not only to kindness in the moment but also to generosity, whether that’s showing compassion to the homeless or supporting ministries that care for those in need. And humility is a daily choice. It doesn’t mean thinking less of ourselves—we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”—but remembering who we are in light of God’s kingdom.
When we walk humbly with God, we acknowledge His wisdom over our own, His justice over our judgment, and His mercy over our pride. As we strive to live out Micah 6:8, may we seek His strength to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly in every moment. And when we humbly rely on God, that is when we find the power to truly live this way.
