Unmarried but Untroubled

“To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am.”
1 Corinthians 7:8 (ESV)

In the Bible, Paul never married. He chose to remain single and devoted his life fully to preaching God’s Word. In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul even said that singleness is a good thing!

If you’re a hopeless romantic like me, you might find yourself wondering how he could say that and truly mean it. Aren’t women created to fall in love, settle down, and start a family with the person God brings into their lives?

But Paul had a point. While you might be wishing for a relationship right now, it’s easy to overlook the most important relationship of all—your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Paul grew deeply close to Jesus during his ministry, and his singleness gave him the space to do that. He knew that God always comes first.

We need to remember that truth in our own lives. God comes before “the one.” Just because you’re single now doesn’t mean you’ll be single forever—and even if God calls you to remain single, that calling is just as valuable. Don’t worry. Whether your future includes a husband or not, God promises to walk with you every step of the way.

So, set your eyes on Him in this season—and keep them there. Ask God how He wants to use you to build His kingdom. Spend time in His Word, talk with Him in prayer, stay connected to your church community, and trust that He is enough—right now and always.

“Our Father in Heaven, thank You for being with me through every step of life. Help me keep my eyes on You and draw closer to You in this season of singleness.”
Amen.
