True Enjoyment

“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.” — 1 Timothy 6:17 (NLT)

This verse cuts through the noise of our culture and what our own heart often tells us. We are constantly told that happiness comes from having more. More money. More stuff. More success. More opportunity. But God offers a better way. He warns us not to place our trust in the “god of more”. It is fragile, temporary, and cannot carry the weight of our hopes. Instead, He invites us to trust Him, the One who generously provides everything we truly need, including joy.

In the world, we rarely, if ever, hear that joy is found in God. And even in the church, some of us have come to believe that God is only concerned with our sacrifice and not our delight. But this verse corrects that misunderstanding. It reminds us that God is the source of true joy. He created beauty, laughter, rest, and celebration. He loves to give good things to His children. He loves to richly give us all we need for our enjoyment.

He does not merely allow enjoyment. He created it. He invites it. He gives it generously.

So today, may we turn away from the things that promise joy but cannot deliver. May we place our trust in the One who never fails and receive His gifts with gratitude and lasting joy. Thank you God that you care about our enjoyment.
