The Sacrament of the Present Moment

I have been reading Abandonment to Divine Providence by Jean-Pierre de Caussade. It can be a tough old book to wade through, but one truth keeps standing out: see each moment as an opportunity to live in faith and communion with God, allowing Him to shape you.

So often, we wait for the “big” spiritual moments—retreats, breakthroughs, or unmistakable signs from God—when in reality, every moment is an invitation to trust Him. Whether good, bad, or challenging, each situation is an opportunity to surrender to His work in us. “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). The present moment, whatever it holds, is where God meets us.
When we take this posture, it leads to peace, joy, rest, and transformation in Christ. Instead of resisting or resenting our circumstances, we begin to trust that God is with us in them. We stop chasing the future or dwelling on the past and learn to embrace today with faith. No matter what you are facing, God is present, working for your good, and inviting you to walk with Him through it.
