How well are you nourished? Physically speaking, chances are you’re nourished pretty well…we are blessed to live in prosperity. Now, in a spiritual sense, how well are you nourished? Do you partake of God’s Word with the same spiritual hunger and thirst that you ingest water and physical nutrients for your muscles, bones and skin? Is the time you feast on God’s word equal to the time you feast daily at the dinner table?
Our fallen state leaves us constantly battling the temptation to avoid an exposed, vulnerable relationship with our Maker. While recently reading “How to Hear God, A Simple Guide for Normal People” (Pete Greig), I often thought a title more suited to me would be “How to Hear God, A Normal Guide for Simple People!” There’s so much to learn about our omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God!
Greig asks a thought-provoking question: “How do we know what we know?” Some answer that they know what they know because it’s what they’ve always known. Others simply accept whatever worldview they’ve inherited from their culture. Still others will answer that science, empirical analysis and pure rationality is how they know what they know.
For the Christian, however, immersing ourselves in the Holy Bible is ultimately how we know what we know about life’s truths. God’s word is the very language of His heart. We can only truly know the heart of God if we’re daily nourishing our spirits with the lessons found in His word.
PRAYER FOR TODAY: Lord, Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Make me more hungry and thirsty for a deeper knowledge of You every day. Nourish me with Your Word, that it might guide my thoughts and actions today and always. Amen.
