Last week, after 55 years of Bible reading, I came across this verse “for the first time.”
David writes so poetically in what is subtitled as a “Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite.”
Behold, the wicked man
CONCEIVES evil
and IS PREGNANT with mischief
and GIVES BIRTH to lies. Psalm 7:14
This Psalm gives us insight into how sin operates.
First, it starts merely as a concept. It’s just a thought or idea. Perhaps a mere suggestion by Satan. But this idea takes root in our hearts as we accept it.
Then the idea starts to grow and gain momentum. No longer is it simply an idea, but a real and growing possibility. There is a plan shaping along with this idea.
Next comes the full-on birth. What was an idea grew into a possibility, which became a reality.
I believe it is the wicked man who needs to have an abortion, not the ladies who have a young life in their womb.
The book of James tells us something similar about this process of sin:
“13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.16 Do not be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.” 1:13-16
Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.
