The Light of God

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:1-5).

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12).  Jesus knew what He was talking about!  He was there at the very beginning, at the creation of the heavens and the earth.  The apostle John described Jesus in the beginning (before His incarnation) as the Word…as being with God, and as God Himself…the third person of the Trinity.

God even gave us a picture of His inextinguishable light, which we visualize especially during the Advent and Christmas season.  In His perfect timing and impeccable precision, God hung the Star of Bethlehem to decorate the night skies!  It shined through the cosmos far and wide, beckoning wise men who followed its brilliance until it spotlighted the young Savior of the World.  Being wise, they worshiped the very Source of light.  When they left His presence, they were more than wise.  With grateful hearts and belief in the King of Kings they were reconciled to God…saved!  The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned (Isaiah 9:2).

PRAYER:  Thank You for loving us enough to demonstrate Your omnipotence in so many beautiful ways!  Through ages past and all eternity to come, neither the light of Your being nor the physical light of the world can be extinguished or overcome.  Thank You Jesus, for walking among us.  Amen.

Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem

O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shining afar through shadows dim
Giving the light for those who long have gone
Guiding the wise men on their way
Unto the place where Jesus lay
O beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine on

O beautiful star the hope of life
Guiding the pilgrims through the night
Over the mountains ’til the break of dawn
Into the land of perfect day
It will give out a lovely ray
O beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine on

O beautiful star the hope of rest
For the redeemed, the good and the blessed
Yonder in glory when the crown is won
Jesus is now the star divine
Brighter and brighter He will shine
O beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine on

CHORUS
O beautiful star of Bethlehem
Shine upon earth until the glory dawns
Give us a lamp to light the way
Unto the land of perfect day
O beautiful star of Bethlehem, shine on
