The Light

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you;

He is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:11

Thank God He sent a Savior to give light to our dark world! Another way to read this scripture is “Today in the town of David, LIGHT has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.”  In John 8:12, Jesus says ‘I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’

We often take light for granted. Each morning, the sun rises giving us light. This happens without fail. Imagine what it would be like to live in total darkness all the time? At night, even the smallest amount of light dispels darkness.  Light a candle in a dark room and the teeniest tiniest bit of light illuminates the entire room.  In the same way, Jesus’ birth dispelled darkness!

We live in a dark, fallen world, but praise God! Jesus’ birth changed that permanently. His birth signifies the end of darkness. His birth gives us hope. All we must do is believe in Him and accept the gift He has freely given us. Jesus’ birth and then death bridged the gap of darkness, granting us access to God. We don’t have to walk in darkness any longer!  Like Jesus, we are called to be light to a dark world. Matthew 5:14-16 tells us “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Thank you, Lord, for the gift of your Son, THE LIGHT! May we choose to live in the light and become a beacon of the hope of Jesus in a dark world.
