The Inevitable

“When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other.” Ecclesiastes 7:14

Landslides are awful. I have seen movies of the devastating effects of houses and cars being crushed, mansions falling from cliffs, and huge paths of mud slaughtering highways. Morton Salt, used a slogan for many years, “When it rains it pours.” This was clever to the mind and was a reminder that “things keep coming,” “some things never stop,” and “you can count on us.”

In life we sometimes have little things that are a nuisance building up. Then they just sort of stop and pause. After a bit of time, you stop and think, is everything really ok, or is THE INEVITABLE going to happen?

We’ve all experienced those times when the weight of life simply “beats us down” and we expect things to get worse again. But, let me write about this briefly.

Life is not always great, so don’t waste your energy during wonderful times fantasizing about bad things that could happen. Could they happen? Of course, but things COULD get even better! Let me repeat that “Things COULD get better.”

The inevitable is this, and we often forget what Psalms 139 says,

“Where can I go from Your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from Your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, You are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there Your hand will guide me,
    Your right hand will hold me fast.”

God is there, already in the future. Nothing is too big for Him, nothing is beyond His comprehension, and nothing is so far away that He can’t be there.

Today, let’s focus on His presence and not on life’s circumstances.
