Luke 10:19
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions
and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
Sometimes we forget that we are sons and daughters of the most high God. Psalm 83:18 (NIV) “Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.” We are children of the King! What do we have to fear?
We were made in God’s image and God gave us dominion here on this earth (Genesis 1:26-28).
Dominion is defined as “sovereignty or control” or “the power or right of governing and controlling; sovereign authority” or “rule; control; domination.”
While Genesis speaks of dominion over the earth “over the fish of the sea and the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” We also have dominion over the one who crawls on his belly on the earth and is our enemy, Satan. It is the enemy who attempts to influence us to sin against God, but we don’t have to let him! Psalm 119:133 “Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.”
Satan’s power is restricted, limited, and temporal.
That’s right. WE have dominion. God gave us dominion on this earth. We have been given authority over the enemy. We must remember our rightful place as children of the most high God. The one and only God. Luke 10:19 reminds us that WE have the power. We have been given the authority and power to trample on snakes and scorpions, and physical and mental strength and ability to overcome all the power of the enemy.
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” But it doesn’t end there! God gives us the tools to withstand and overcome, continuing in verses 13-17 ‘Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
The enemy is under our feet. UNDER OUR FEET. This is powerful. This changes everything! WE have dominion on this earth. We ought to rejoice knowing that no matter what the enemy throws at us, we have the Holy Spirit to direct us, guide us, and comfort us. We must invite Him to do so through right standing with God through confession of sins, prayer and studying God’s Word and keeping His words in our heart.
Today, more than ever before in my lifetime, the spiritual struggle for the soul of our families, country, and the world beyond is darker and more evil than I’ve known. Now is the time to take a stand against the enemy and ask God to forgive our sins and heal our land as 2 Chronicles teaches us. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
