The summer heat can be dangerous. Poor little plants without deep roots can be scorched in an instant. Prolonged sun exposure without proper hydration leads to headaches, fatigue, and even collapse.
The same can happen in our spiritual lives. There are seasons when the heat feels relentless. We feel scorched, worn thin, and on the verge of withering. The pressures and pains of life begin to dry us out. A rude or pushy person. An unexpected tragedy strikes. A neighbor who shows no concern for others. A critic who mocks your faith. A strained or broken relationship. These moments burn hot and feel like they are draining the very life from us.
This is why Paul prayed that we would be rooted and grounded in the love of God. What does that look like? It means spending time with Him. Soaking in His word. Sitting with Him in prayer. Remembering and practicing His ways. Holding onto the promise of heaven until it reshapes how we walk through today.T
There is a difference between believing in God and living filled with the Spirit. We can say we trust Him and still be spiritually dry. But when our lives are saturated in His love, we begin to grow deep roots that hold firm when the heat comes.
D.L. Moody once said, “A great many think because they have been filled once, they are going to be full for all time after. But… we are leaky vessels, and we have to be kept right under the fountain all the time to keep full of Christ.”
May God’s love water your soul today as you immerse yourself in His presence. May He renew your strength and give you all you need to flourish, even in the heat.
