Pastor Jon was ordained/installed on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 11:00am at Lincoln Presbyterian Church.
Jon Hathorn was born in Stockton, California. Jon is the youngest of four siblings. Jon attended local elementary schools, Jr. High and graduated from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School. Jon went to the University of the Pacific where he graduated with a degree in Recreational Administration. After he graduated from Pacific, Jon enrolled in Simpson University, which at the time was in San Francisco and now is in Redding, California. He earned his master’s degree in Bible and Theology. Pastor Jon has successfully completed all the requirements of the ECO Presbyterian Denomination. On August 22, 2019, the Northern California Presbytery unanimously voted Jon to be moved towards being ordain by Lincoln.
After college Jon went to work at Quail Lakes Baptist Church where he was mentored by Pastor Fred Jantz. Jon has also worked at Jim Elliot Christian School as a Vice Principal, Chaplain, Teacher, Coach and Student Advisor. Prior to coming to Lincoln, Jon was the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Linden for 9 years.
Jon has attended church his entire life and he grew up at First Presbyterian Church here in Stockton. As a child, Jon wanted the Lord to like him and he would regularly pray the Lord’s prayer each night, trying to prove to Him his devotion, attempting to earn His favor. God was important and had always been important, but he didn’t understand his need for a relationship and that his sin had separated him from God. Through a friendship in Jr. High School, Jon was invited to Hume Lake Christian Camp. It was during Jon’s Junior year in high school when Jon listened to and comprehended that he needed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jon understood that he must place his trust and faith in Jesus death, burial and resurrection and through Jesus grace, Jon would have eternal life with Him. It was on a Sunday night when Jon asked Christ to forgive him of his sin and Jon asked Jesus to help him live the kind of life he ought to live. One of the standards that Jon strives to adhere to, is to live in accordance with 1 Timothy 3:1-7 (NLT).
Jon and his wife Bev attended Lincoln in October 2017 and immediately fell in love with the church and all the people. Jon was hired on January 2, 2018 as Lincoln’s Pastor of Church Ministries. Since then Jon has successfully passed all the requirements to be an ordained ECO Presbyterian Pastor. Jon loves ECO and the direction the denomination is moving.
Jon met his wife Bev on a Mexico Mission Trip. They have been married for 35 years. They raised their two beautiful daughters Christi and Heidi in Stockton. They have two tremendous sons-in-law Casey and Eric and three energetic and fun grandchildren Riley, Hunter and Emmaline.
