Once Far, Now Near

“This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” — Colossians 1:21–22 (NLT)

There was a time when we were far from God—cut off, wandering, and separated from Him by sin. But through Christ, everything has changed. We’ve been reconciled, brought near, restored to relationship with the God who made us.

And yet… sometimes we still feel distant.

There are days when God feels quiet or far away, when we wonder if He’s really close. But Colossians 1:21–22 reminds us of a deeper truth: we were once far, but now we are brought near. And more than that, we are holy and blameless in His sight.

One worship song I used to love says, “You are closer than the air I breathe, closer than the skin on me.” That’s the kind of closeness we now have with God in Christ. Not only is He with us—He lives in us. Even when we don’t feel it, we can trust it.

So when your heart feels distant, cling to the truth: He is with you. You are no longer far. You are no longer condemned. In Christ, you are holy, blameless, and held close by grace.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for bringing me near when I was far. Thank You that I now stand before You holy and blameless, not because of my own efforts, but because of Your grace. Help me trust this truth, even when I don’t feel it. You are with me—and I am Yours. Amen.
