“Let the words of my mouth…” Psalm 19:14
What exactly is coming out of our mouths? We will come back to that question in a few minutes but let me tell you what happened at a sheep ranch just a few weeks ago. Our daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter Sequoia, age 11, were in Victoria at Butchart Gardens. When they left, they saw a ranch that was open to the public. Sequoia loves animals so they went in to check it out. What they saw next was almost unbelievable.
They noticed that a lamb was in great distress giving birth to her baby. My son-in-law Steve went and found the shepherd and informed him. The shepherd came and helped the baby lamb to be born, but this little one was born dead. The shepherd did the unbelievable and began to perform mouth to mouth resuscitation. For the next 10 minutes while rubbing the newborn lamb’s body and continuing to do mouth to mouth resuscitation, the shepherd would not quit. Then, suddenly the newborn lamb began to move. Yes, in front of our 11-year-old granddaughter a miracle was happening. The newborn lamb was alive, and our family was thrilled, amazed, and in awe of the shepherd’s love for his family of sheep.
Our family was leaving Victoria the next day, but before they left, they went back to the ranch to check on mom and baby. Both were doing great.
God, who is our Good Shepherd, has performed mouth to mouth resuscitation on all of us who have been saved, born again, and filled with His Holy Spirit. Listen to His word:
“But God who is rich in mercy because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were DEAD in trespasses made us alive together with Christ…” (Ephesians 2:4,5)
So now going back to that question, what is coming out of our mouths? Hope or hopelessness, encouragement or discouragement, buildup or push down, love or disdain, appreciation or diminishment, honor or dishonor?
I trust that we get the point. Something is coming out of our mouths, and it is either bringing life and hope or exactly the opposite. We should all strive to be like that shepherd who would not quit on anyone till they have the beautiful hope of Jesus in them. Mouth to mouth resuscitation in Jesus Christ.
