“Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” Psalm 86:11
So often we are tempted to rely on our own strength, our own wisdom, and our own resources. Yet the way of the Lord is different. His way is to rest in His provision, to trust His daily care, and to lean into His unfailing faithfulness. Jesus taught us to pray for daily bread, reminding us that the heavenly bakery never runs out of dough.
When the pressures of life press in, we instinctively grasp for control. We rush forward in haste to fix problems, fearing that everything depends on us. But when we live this way, we find our hearts divided—one foot in the world, one foot in the kingdom of God. We may turn to Him in moments of desperation, yet spend most of our days depending on ourselves.
Psalm 86:11 gives us a better way. It is a prayer that God would teach us His path, that He would unite our hearts in trust, and that His name would be front and center in our lives. To “fear His name” is to reverence Him above all else—even above our own wisdom, desires, and plans. This is the place of true peace and lasting joy: a life not torn in two directions, but wholly centered on God.
So today we prayerfully echo the psalmist: Teach me your way, Lord. Give me an undivided heart. Help me to rely on Your faithfulness.
