Lesson Learned On A Runway

“Give Thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Recently, we were pulling away from the gate in Sacramento to fly to Florida. As we were headed out onto the runway for takeoff, we stopped, turned around, and headed back to our original gate. The reason was unknown at first, but we soon learned that someone we did not know had most likely just had a heart attack and needed immediate attention, as well as to be taken off the plane.

Medical staff worked on him, and as these volunteers aboard the plane helped, the pilot spoke calmly to all of us and said, “I know you all want to know what is going on, but more important is if you are so inclined to pray for this individual, please join me in prayer.” The pilot went on to say that this was a hard time and that our patience and prayers were greatly appreciated.

I was asked by someone I did not know to pray for someone I did not know, then to pray for the medical team I did not know. All I could think was what a privilege it was to be invited to pray to my LORD and SAVIOR, whom I know, for those I don’t know—BUT HE DOES!

As we took off about an hour later, all I could think was that God calls me/us to pray more for those we don’t know, and I/we don’t have to know the results because I/we know the ONE who is in control will handle the results. Keep on praying!
