Not long ago, my family went hiking through a majestic redwood forest. My 2-year-old daughter, full of energy and wonder, insisted on running down the trail. But she didn’t do it alone—she held tightly to my hands. With me holding her, she could run faster than she ever could on her own. Even when she stumbled, she didn’t fall, because I was holding her steady. She laughed and giggled as she sprinted down the trail like a bionic toddler.
In that moment, I saw a picture of God’s care for us and was prompted to reflect on Psalm 37:23-24 which says, “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”
God isn’t a distant observer; He delights in every little detail of our lives. He is attentive, aware, and caring. He sees every joy, every struggle, and every moment we stumble. And like toddlers, we too can definitely stumble. But because our Heavenly Father is holding us tightly by the hand, we won’t fall. His love keeps us steady, and His strength carries us forward. If we stumble, He is right there to keep us upheld by His strength and work for us.
If your trust is in Jesus, wherever you find yourself today, know this: You’re not running alone. Your Heavenly Father is holding your hand, delighting in every step you take. Even when the trail feels steep or your feet falter, His grip is sure. You’re safe in His hands—so run with courage, knowing He’ll never let you fall. He is holding you.
