Give Thanks

“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Giving thanks can be a foreign concept to us. We tend to focus on everything going wrong and miss what’s going right. This human problem is not a new one. I’m reminded of the Israelites who started whining and complaining about their circumstances in wilderness.

Exodus 16:1-2 says, “The whole Israelite community set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had come out of Egypt. In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron”.

And this was only one month after God had rescued them from Egypt. The Israelites had lost sight of all that God had done for them. They had forgotten that God was the one in charge.

When times get tough it’s easy to lose sight of who is really in charge of our circumstances. Giving thanks, even when it’s hard, helps to change our perspective. It takes our focus off ourselves and puts it where it belongs…on the goodness of GOD.
