“For to us a child is born,
To us a son is given,
And the government will be on His shoulders.
And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
I cannot help but capitalize “His” and “He.” Who other than the Lord Jesus can carry such names? Who other than the Lord Jesus can fulfill such roles? Not only is He Counselor; He is a Wonderful Counselor. Not only is He God; He is Mighty God. Not only is He Father; He is Everlasting Father. Not only is He Prince; He is Prince of Peace.
To whom else can we go with such confidence regarding the things we come across every day? An issue may be big or small, fleeting or consuming. In His love for us, Jesus is there as Counselor, as God, as Father, as Prince.
Isaiah 9:7a says, “Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.”
Isaiah is a prophet of the Lord speaking to a nation who will soon be in exile for turning their backs on the Lord; yet, the Lord’s message is continually of mercy and peace. He sees His people. He knows their suffering. And He will be their salvation.
Jesus is our salvation! He is the child born to us to redeem all people. He is the brightest light in the deepest darkness. In love He came. In love He lives. He is with us in whatever we are facing, bringing peace, joy, confidence, and order. What greater reason is there to rejoice than a Son born for our salvation?
“Joy to the world, the Lord has come!”
