Drawing Without an Eraser

“Life is the art of drawing without an eraser.” – John W. Gardner

This quote made me chuckle because of how true it is. Life only moves in one direction and there are no true do-overs. Each moment comes and goes, leaving its mark, whether we like it or not. As we draw the picture of our lives without an eraser, mistakes are inevitable. It’s the weight of being imperfect creatures.
That’s why grace, mercy, and forgiveness are so essential. Without God’s grace and the gift of grace for one another, we’d be trapped in the confines of our mistakes and regrets, unable to move forward. We all desperately need a second chance now and then.

While careful planning, wisdom, and learning can sometimes prevent mistakes, there’s no escaping the need for grace. Though life may be the art of drawing without an eraser, it is not without hope. God, in His love, has given us grace, a gift far greater than any eraser.
