Worship

“My mouth is filled with Your praise, declaring Your splendor all day long.”  Psalm 71:8

This idea always seems to surprise me. No matter how many times I hear it or see it in action, it continues to leave me shocked. How many ways can you play a game? How many little alterations can you make to one game, using the same foundation, but also making it feel totally new and different? While organizing games one night for youth group, I was given a book that had what seemed like an endless assortment of games to play and different variations to play each game to best cater to the size group you have, the amount of space you have, and how many leaders can help put the game on. As I went through this book, there was a section on the foundational game “capture the flag” but so many different ways to play it, with different names, and making the game exciting no matter which way you play it.

Looking back at that moment when I first saw that book, it also makes me think about the idea of worship and how many ways there are to worship our amazing God. Some may tie the word synonymously with music, or church services, or anything involving the church. But the reality of it is this: worship is something we should be doing all day long. Our lives, our actions, our words, everything we do should be an act of worship unto God. From group settings to alone time, from church activities to our everyday lives, we are to lift up the name of God, honor Him through all that we do, and place our lives under His Lordship. Just like those games, we should not limit the act of worship to any one or few options, but rather be amazed that there are so many opportunities we have to worship God!

How are you choosing to worship God today? Maybe it is in your interactions with others. Maybe it is in your service within the church. Maybe it is devoting a time for devotions and prayer. Maybe it is finding a time of quiet and allowing God to speak to you. Regardless of the way you choose to worship, let's rejoice because we are blessed through our relationship with God Almighty, receiving His grace, love and hope. Let’s choose to worship Him through all the different opportunities, not forsaking one over the other, but allowing every part of our lives to be an act of worship to Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to see the many ways You have provided for us. Show me the areas in my life where I could better worship You and help to not take those opportunities for granted. Open my heart and eyes to the great work You are doing in my life and the lives of many, giving us so many things to be grateful for. And may I worship You beyond just one way or the other, but all day long, praising Your name, for You are God and I am not. In Jesus Name, Amen.
