Tuned Into God's Station

by Justin Linscheid on January 21, 2023

The fact that there are radio waves flying through the sky that are invisible but can be tuned into has always amazed me. For me it’s one of those things that would even be hard to believe unless you’ve experienced it. Imagine trying to explain this to someone in the ancient world. It’s hard to imagine that there could be sound traveling through the sky that we can’t hear and yet a radio makes it perfectly audible. It’s fascinating. Have you ever been on a long road trip and tuned into a station that you like and then driven out of range and it disappears on you? You then need to scan the radio waves to find a new station to tune into.

I think there is a spiritual application here. God’s Spirit is invisible but He speaks. We just need to be in tune with Him. Sometimes we wander out of range and hear nothing but static. Spending time with God daily, keeping our minds fixed on His word, and walking as living sacrifices helps us to stay tuned into God’s station. When we get out of range, life gets fuzzy and there is a noticeable disconnect. God’s Spirit broadcasts across the entire universe, yet we need to be tuned in. Galatians 5:16 tells us, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Another translation says, “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.” The idea here is setting aside our own power and relying on God's. The Spirit of God in us is available and willing to help and we tune into Him when we yield and submit our lives to God in an on-going way. Be sensitive to God, fill your mind with His Word and you will more readily stay tuned into His voice.

Many of this world look around and say, “Where is God? I can’t see Him or hear Him at all… Why doesn’t He say something?” Perhaps a good question to consider is not whether God is real or whether God speaks but whether we are tuned in?  I encourage you to pray a simple prayer today:  God make me aware of Your presence in my life. Tune me into Your voice and make me receptive to You. Amen.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4
