The Tapestry

by Lise Bachman-Karnes on July 10, 2021

“For now we see in a mirror dimly but then face to face. Now I know in part: then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.” I Corinthians 13: 12

A friend of mine had an interesting take on our troubles here on earth. I was going through a rough patch and she said that she liked to picture God working on a tapestry. Now we see the bottom of the tapestry with all the knots and loose thread while from God’s viewpoint it is a beautiful tapestry. Since I am a needleworker that image really caught my imagination and helped me deal with my earthly problems.

I have shared that visual with other people and they have found it helpful as well.  1st Corinthians 13:12  captures our often limited perspective here on earth: “For now we see in a mirror dimly but then face to face. Now I know in part: then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.”

Sometimes we go through difficulties that are tough to understand. May it give you peace to know that our circumstances are not beyond God’s understanding nor are they too difficult for Him. We may not yet see the meaning in a particular circumstance, and we may never see the full meaning this side of Heaven. Yet trust that God is present with you and is more than able to weave a beautiful tapestry from even the most difficult threads of life.
