The Book of Zephaniah

by Justin Linscheid on June 27, 2022

As with other Biblical Prophets, Zephaniah warns of a coming day of judgement. This is time of both great joy and great sorrow. Great joy and blessing await those whose trust is in the Lord. Great sorrow awaits those who have rejected God’s offer of relationship.

Zephaniah 3:17 speaks of the great blessing that belongs to those who are in a trusting relationship with the Lord. “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

Consider the great truths and blessings for those who belong to the Lord:

The Lord is living among you. This is true joy and purpose, to be in close fellowship with our Creator.

He is a mighty savior. We need a mighty savior to save us from sin. We are unable to break the chains that spiritually bind us. We would be utterly hopeless without a God like we have. But nothing is impossible for God. He is a strong, mighty, and gracious Savior.

He will take delight in you with gladness. When God looks on His children, He beams with joy. We can search the world high and low for approval and never find the kind of delight that God has for us.

With His love, He will calm all your fears. What do we ultimately have to fear when we understand that our Heavenly Father loves us and is all powerful? These truths have the power to calm our anxious hearts and brings peace to the most troubled soul.

He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. The melody of God’s voice will fill your life with joy and beauty as you live in close relationship with God. Most of us enjoy the gift of hearing a gifted singer singing a song. Can you imagine the beauty of the singing of God over you?

When I think of the wonderful blessings that God extends to those who trust Him, I can’t help but wonder why one would want to reject Him? Sin is deceptive and temptations lure, but be reminded today that the greatest blessings belong to those whose trust is in the Lord. There is no greater joy than to be a child of the loving and living God.
