Sitting at the Feet of Jesus

by Patrice Verhines on November 27, 2020

"And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard His word." Luke 10:39

Do your favorite songs of faith bring cherished scripture passages to mind?  I have precious memories of Daddy singing bass in our little church’s gospel quartet all through my childhood.  You could watch the joy pervade his whole being as the music transported him higher, deeper and wider in worship.  And that old gospel quartet had such fun!

Songs that touch the depths of my heart are those that recall scriptures I love and revitalize my spiritual growth.  The lyrics of “Sitting at the Feet of Jesus” are a fine example.  I could quickly name a dozen more, and I bet you could too.

I invite you to click on the link below, listen to this lovely hymn, and be refreshed by this selection of scripture passages, as I was today.

Sitting at the feet of Jesus
Oh, what words I hear Him say
Happy place, so near, so precious
May it find me there each day

Mark 4:21 -  He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed?  Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”  24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” He continued.  “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.”

Sitting at the feet of Jesus
I would look upon the past
For His love has been so gracious
It has won my heart at last

John 1:16 - Out of His fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.

Sitting at the feet of Jesus
Where can mortals be more blessed

Matthew 5:3 - He said: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God."
