Recognition and Honor

by Jon Hathorn on January 18, 2021

"...and give honor where honor is due." Romans 13:7

Giving honor and recognition is important as it inspires others to do their best as well.  It encourages hard work, creativity, and follow through.  Martin Luther King was an incredible man, a follower of Jesus Christ, and an inspiration for us.  He is one of the more well-known difference makers here in America.  But there are many more. And we should be thankful to God for each of them. We all have people who inspire us and motivate us to do our best.  On this day, I wanted to express thanks for several of the great Black leaders who have invented things that have made life better, more comfortable, safer, and more productive here in the United States. Charles Brooks invented the Street Sweeper, Fred Jones the refrigerator tractor trailers, Garret Morgan the three position traffic signal, Thomas Jennings invented "dry scouring" which was the first type of dry cleaning of delicate clothing, Andre Reboucas invented the underwater canon that was used in submarines during war, Marie Britton Brown who made the first versions of modern home security systems.  I could go on, and we simply need to honor people and thank people who have done things that made life better, easier, safer, and more comfortable.

Who is someone in your life that you should honor and thank for making a difference for you?  Have you taken the time to thank them and express appreciation? A friend, a relative, a teacher, a community leader.
