Inner Promptings

by Lise Bachman-Karnes on May 26, 2021

I had an unusual, at least for me, experience recently that I wanted to share:

I help with the fifth and sixth grade girls at TeamKid on Wednesdays. Miss Janet (Janet Beck) is very good at bringing projects for the girls to do after they finish their worksheets. On this particular night, she had them writing positive messages on rocks to give away or put in their garden. Bella wanted to use the verse about being the apple of His eye. The three of us leaders were scratching our heads saying we knew it was somewhere in Psalms, when I said, out of the blue, look in Psalm 17. As soon as I said it, I doubted it would be there as I had no idea where that thought had come from. Sure enough, Bella opened her Bible and found what she was looking for in verse 8:

“Keep me as the apple of the eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings,” Psalm 17:8 (NASB)

This is not the first time I’ve had inspiration from the Holy Spirit, Pastor Bob called it “inner promptings” but it was the most unusual in that it was so much a part of me. I didn’t have a chance to have an ah-hah moment. It was just there in my brain. My take away from this is to be more aware of the Holy Spirit in my life. I shared the experience with the girls last week, but they were underwhelmed it seemed. I guess they just expected it in their leader. I hope I can live up to that image.

“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring to remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26 (RSV)
