I'll Be There

by Jon Hathorn on September 21, 2020

"The Lord Himself will come down..with the trumpet call of God." 1st Thessalonians 4:16

I have a really good friend named Greg and for many years he was a travelling salesman.  He was gone several nights each week, but always got home on Friday Night.  He used to tell his son, "I'll be here for us to watch the Dukes."  That meant he would be home before the Dukes of Hazzard.  He actually was never late for the show, and they had snacks and dinner every Friday with that show.  His son, whose name is Matt, knew he could count on his dad and could count on the word from his dad.

We have received a promise from the Lord that He will return for us.  We call it the Second Coming of Christ or sometimes the Return of Jesus.  It is exciting to think about being with Him in this way.  Being in His presence is an incredible thought.  Some people love studying those details that the Bible has about His return and the days and seasons leading up to it.  That is called the study of the end times or "eschatology." Others just know for sure that Jesus is coming back and they are excited to be with Him forever.

Revelation speaks about a book called "The Lamb's Book of Life."  This is the record that is kept about names of who will be with Him.  There is a beautiful song that speaks about the proclamation that one is sure they will be with the Lord when He returns.  It is called , "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" by James Black.  Here's the first verse and chorus.

When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more

And the morning breaks eternal bright and fair

When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore

And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there.

When the roll is called up yonder

When the roll is called up yonder

When the roll is called up yonder

When the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there.
