Good Deeds

by Jon Hathorn on May 30, 2020

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

She was one of the best Sunday School teachers ever.  I have three incredible memories of her.  First of all, she loved the boys more than the girls, and when you are 9 years old and the girls have cooties, that's important.  There were about 5 boys and 1 girl in the class.  She laughed at our boy antics of us laughing at the wrong time and she regularly told us she liked us and God did also.  She invited us over to her house in December and we made cookies. The goal was to make enough cookies for each of our mom's and for us to be able to give some to each of our neighbors.   It was a great time.  She had a blast with us and we remembered that day for a long time.  We even got to ride in her car.  It was a cool car.  At the end of the year, we all went to Lodi Lake for the day.  She picked us up and we had a picnic lunch, went swimming and got to ride in her cool car.  And yes, we acted like boys doing silly things and even stupid things.  But you know what, the real memory I have of those two events and of Sunday School was that we prayed at the beginning of Sunday School every week and at the end of class we would pray again.  And you know what, when we went to her house and to Lodi Lake we prayed when we left and we prayed when we returned home.  Her good works were surrounded in prayer.  Those things that she did with us were great, but the really good work was her heart as she  pointed us to God.  Remember that doing good things for people is a good thing, and asking God to bless it is also.
