Fortune Cookie

"You are the Light of the World" Matthew 5:14

I was with my wife Heidi in one of our favorite Chinese restaurants, and I cracked open a fortune cookie, and it said, “All of the darkness in the world cannot put out the light of a single candle.”

We take it for granted, but light is very interesting. Light permeates every opening and crack, and it illuminates everything it touches. It also goes only in one direction – outward.  And light is either on, or off. It’s simple, yet has super powers.

Right now the world is kind of dark. The effects of the coronavirus have darkened our people world, darkened our financial world, seemingly darkened the future of the world, and worst of all darkened the world that exists in our minds. It’s satan’s black hole where no light can escape, and it’s daunting.

Thankfully, God placed His light in each of us as believers, and when we turn God’s light on and allow it to shine outward in our own little worlds, that light illuminates everything and everyone it touches. Conversely, when we focus selfishly inward on ourselves, God’s light is off, and then what is our purpose?

In  Matthew 5:14, God says to us, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden, and in verse 16, He says, “let your light shine before others.” People have forever been drawn to light, and right now they‘re in the dark, scared, and looking for light at the end of this tunnel. Let’s flip God’s light switch on, live these verses, and be that light at the end of the tunnel.

All of the darkness in satan’s world cannot put out the light of us as believers.
