Do You Love Me?

by Lorna Zink on July 06, 2022

I was recently sitting and foolishly festering about something someone had done that made me feel irritable and angry.

To my surprise, some Scripture came to me. It was the passage where Jesus asked Peter three times, “Peter, do you love Me?” I knew clearly what God was saying to me. God was reminding me of Jesus’ call to love Him and others and extend them God’s forgiveness.

Jesus had plans for Peter, “Feed my sheep.”  But Peter would need to focus strongly on His love for Jesus to accomplish these plans. He couldn’t dwell on past mistakes or hurts. He needed to focus on His love for Jesus. Our love for Jesus is strongly connected to our service for Jesus.

The wonderful plans and provision for each of us might not happen if we do not learn to love Jesus deeply.

John 21:15-17, “When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “You know that I love You.”

Jesus said, “Feed My lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, You know that I love You.”

Jesus said, “Take care of My sheep.”

17 The third time He said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”
