I wear a cross that my husband gave me on a daily basis. For me, it is a helpful reminder that draws my mind to Jesus.
Sometimes I feel angry or tempted to make a snide remark, but I remember the cross I am wearing and refrain from doing so. The cross reminds me to hold the door for someone behind me and let a person who has just a few items to go ahead of me in line at the grocery store. The cross reminds me to be patient with family members, especially my grandchildren. As I write this, I have discovered that my granddaughter has colored on every page of my concordance. Since it is still very usable, I will save my annoyance for something more crucial.
The cross around my neck and the Holy Spirit within me prompt me to remember Jesus when I am tempted to treat others out of unkindness rather than out of love.
The following verse reminds us to bind something else around our necks. “Do not let mercy and kindness and truth leave you, bind them securely around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3:3
May Jesus’ example and presence with us remind us to live these truths out.
