Certain Is Better

by Keith Evans on December 08, 2021

“And I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in His grace until His task within you is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns.”  Philippians 1:6 (TLB)

I smile every time I see the Tracy Morgan commercial “Certain Is Better.”  You know the one where he says, “I am pretty sure these mushrooms are not poisonous,” “I am pretty sure these hornets are not the murdering type,” and “I’m pretty sure you can take down Bautista.”  The final catch phrase in this commercial is “Certain is Better.”

In August of 1990, I was pretty sure my relationship with God was good. Then I was involved in an auto accident in which I probably should have died. This accident was my wake-up call and in the days following I did a lot of self-reflection about where my life was heading. I realized that I wasn’t certain if I had died during that auto accident that I would have been in Heaven with God. So, in the living room of my apartment, I committed my life to God and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. There were no fireworks or trumpets that blasted, but I felt the peace of certainty that when my time on earth is done, I know I will be in Heaven with my Lord and Savior.

How about you? Are you certain or are you pretty sure? If you are just pretty sure, you can be certain today. If you are ready to commit your life to Jesus, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I want to be certain that when I die, I will be with You in Heaven. You created me to live with You for eternity. You have promised that if I believe in You, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and You will accept me into Your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe You are God, my Savior. I receive You into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning every part of my life over to You. I want to follow You and do what You tell me to do.

“Jesus, I am grateful for Your love and Your sacrifice that makes it possible for me to join You in heaven. I know I don’t deserve it. And I thank You that I don’t have to earn or work for my salvation, because I know that is impossible. I want to use the rest of my life to serve You instead of serving myself. I humbly commit my life to You, and I ask You to save me and accept me into Your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

If you just prayed that prayer, know with certainty you will be in Heaven when you leave this earth. If you prayed that prayer, let Pastor Jon ( ) or Pastor Justin ( ) know so they can help you take the next steps.
