Building a Life

by Lorna Zink on January 27, 2021

“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone” Psalm 118:22

After returning from the Navy in World War II, my Dad went to night school to learn carpentry. He liked being out of doors and working with his hands, so it was a good fit.  As some years went by, my sister Linda and I got big enough to bake and sew clothes. My Dad would come home from work and see one of us stirring the batter to make something, and he would ask, “What are you building?”. The same thing happened when he would see us at the sewing machine. “What are you building?”, he would ask.

Of course, there are some other kinds of building all of us do, and how we do it is so important. For instance, we make decisions on how we want to build our lives-education, marriage, family, career.

It became an exciting time when I realized the most important thing to building a life is to put Jesus as the cornerstone and build from there. Learning to put God first in making decisions-to use God’s Word as the measuring stick, is a wonderful journey. As we grow in our Christian faith, we are also called to build bridges to other people, and Christian fellowship & friendship is priceless.

How is your journey going? What are you building?

Isaiah 28:16  “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation.”
