Beyond the Ballot Box

by Justin Linscheid on November 05, 2024

As we approach Election Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the privilege and responsibility we hold as citizens- citizens of the United States, but also of God’s Kingdom.

The act of voting is not just a civic duty; it is an opportunity to express our values and contribute to the common good. This day offers us a chance to seek God's wisdom in our choices and to pray for discernment as we consider the candidates and issues before us. Let us commit to engaging in this process knowing that our decisions can impact our communities. May God’s wisdom, word, and Spirit guide us in upholding this responsibility well.

Moreover, as we cast our votes, may we also remember to uphold unity and love in our hearts. The political landscape is undoubtedly divisive, but as followers of Christ, we are called to rise above the fray. Ephesians 4:2-3 exhorts us to be humble, gentle, and patient, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Let us make every effort as we engage in constructive dialogue to honor the dignity of those who may disagree with us in a kind and respectful manner.

Ultimately, our hope rests not in the outcome of an election but in the steadfast love and sovereignty of God Almighty, who works all things for good. In God there is unchanging peace and unshakable security. May we approach this day with prayer, wisdom, and a commitment to be His light in our communities. Although our lives and choices are an important part in this world, we are ultimately traveler’s passing through on a journey to our heavenly home where our Heavenly Father always sits on the throne. Let’s pray that others would join us in placing their trust in God and making Him their hope.
