“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” Genesis 1:1
How did you and I come into existence? It’s a question many ask. According to the National Library of Medicine, a worldview encompasses a collection of attitudes, values, stories, and expectations that shape our thoughts and actions. Five fundamental issues must be addressed with every worldview: Origin, Identity, Morality, Destiny, and Existence.
The origin question, “Where did I come from?” has captivated humanity since the dawn of time, and it often reaches a fever pitch during college years. Heated arguments can easily escalate into physical confrontations. Why? For many, thinking about where they came from is like looking right into the heart of who they are. It can make you wonder if everything happened by chance or if there’s a bigger plan, a god who’s not really involved in our lives but just set things in motion, or a god who’s actually there and made our lives and existence. The way you and I grapple with and answer this “Why” question profoundly impacts our lives. It can bring peace and hope or instill feelings of aloneness, fear, worry, and a profound sense of powerlessness.
The Bible addresses the question of origin by declaring, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” Genesis 1:1. This verse essentially declares that God brought everything into existence at the very beginning of time, including the universe and all life on Earth. The implication is that He holds sovereignty over all creation, making Him worthy of worship. This establishes a relationship between God and humanity, where humans are seen as stewards of the created world, responsible for caring for it. Essentially, it signifies that everything exists because of God’s deliberate act of creation, and humans are meant to live in accordance with His design and purpose.
Today is a great day to simply say “Thank you Lord for creating everything and even more for creating me. I love you and thank you for being God and for having an interest in me.”
