Anselm of Canterbury lived nearly a thousand years ago, but his words still stir something deep in the soul. He was a monk, a scholar, and a man of prayer. His life was marked by a longing to know God—not just in thought, but in heart.
One of his prayers has been passed down through the centuries. It is simple, honest, and full of hunger for the presence of God:
“O Lord our God, grant us grace to desire you with our whole heart, that so desiring we may seek and find you; and so finding you we may love you; and so loving you we may hate those sins from which you have redeemed us; for the sake of Jesus Christ.”
There’s not much I can add to that. I don’t think I need to.
Just take a moment. Pray it slowly. Come back to it a few times today.
Let this be your prayer too.
