Canceled

“[Jesus] canceled the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands.”
Colossians 2.14a

Whoosh—and the entire list of my bads and badders was wiped clean.

Another translation says He annulled it. The charges were dropped. The evidence erased.

In Mexico, there is a word for this. Sometimes if you pay the right person, your record disappears. But it comes at the cost of a bribe. Justice gets twisted.

The cancellation of all that was against me cost God something far more personal. It cost Him His Son. There was no corruption. No backdoor deal. No winking at sin. Just pure and costly love.

He did not cancel my debt by ignoring it. He canceled it by paying it. Every line. Every offense. Every regret.

What potency there is in His blood.
What grace there is in His love.
What freedom there is in being forgiven.
