When Truth Becomes Real

In The Great Divorce, C.S. Lewis presents a conversation between a skeptical intellectual and a heavenly guide. The guide says:

“You think that, because hitherto you have experienced truth only with the abstract intellect. I will bring you where you can taste it like honey and be embraced by it as by a bridegroom. Your thirst shall be quenched.”
—C.S. Lewis, The Great Divorce

This moment captures a profound truth: God doesn’t invite us merely to understand Him intellectually but to experience Him deeply and personally.

Psalm 34:8 echoes this invitation:

“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!”
—Psalm 34:8

Faith isn’t just about concepts or doctrines; it’s about encountering the living God, feeling His presence, knowing His love, and finding joy in His embrace.

Lord, take me beyond mere intellectual assent of Your existence. I long for more than just knowledge; I desire a fresh outpouring of Your presence. Let me taste Your goodness like honey and feel Your embrace like a loving friend. Quench my thirst with the reality of who You are. Amen.
