Our Only Hope

“Turn us again to yourself, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.” —Psalm 80:19 (NLT)

In Star Wars: A New Hope, Princess Leia sends a desperate message hidden inside a small droid: “Help us, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re our only hope.” The galaxy was under the grip of the evil Empire, and with the Rebel forces facing destruction, Leia knew they couldn’t save themselves. Obi-Wan, a former Jedi Knight, was their last chance. This kind of plea—a recognition that only one person can bring salvation—is a posture we should have toward God.

The truth is, we cannot save ourselves. Our hearts naturally wander, drawn toward self-reliance and rebellion, but Scripture reminds us that only God can turn us back to Him. Only when we fully surrender and seek His face will we experience true salvation. Real peace, freedom, and joy come not from our own efforts, but from returning to the One who created us. Help us, Jesus. You are our only hope.
