“Then God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars.” – Genesis 1:16
The other day, Pam and I were driving when she said she needed to pick something up at Dillard’s. When we arrived, she said, “Come in! They have a 65 percent off sale and you should take a look.”
OK. I looked around, nothing I needed, but I spotted the security guard. Someone to talk to and get to know.
I walked over and we struck up a conversation, not about anything important, just small talk. I mentioned my wife, Pam, and he held up his left hand, telling me he had been married for ten years. I asked how they met.
He said, “I believe in the stars and horoscopes. One day, she was walking by where I was and I spoke to her. Later, I found out we were born in the same month and I knew the stars had brought us together.”
When he finished, I said, “I know the ONE who made the stars and HE IS GOD. I truly believe HE is the ONE who brought you two together.”
He looked down at me and said, “You know, I think you are right.”
Then I said, “You and your wife of ten years should come to our church, Lincoln Presbyterian.” I gave him the location and service time and he said, “We just might do that.”
This reminds me of a great song:
“I’m just a nobody, trying to tell everybody, about Somebody who can save anybody.”
Dillard’s did not have any clothes I needed that day, but they had an employee who needed to know WHO MADE THE STARS. We all have a story to tell if we are willing to start the conversation.
