Pursued by Perfect Love

Since first encountering The Lord of the Rings, I’ve been captivated by its intricate storylines. One that stands out is Gollum’s obsession with the One Ring. His unhealthy love for the ring consumes him, driving him to the brink of madness. Gollum is willing to die for it, stopping at nothing to possess it. His twisted, self-serving devotion contrasts sharply with the holy love of God.
In Christ, God also pursues us with unwavering love, but His is not like Gollum’s love for the ring. His pursuit is not selfish or manipulative. Instead, it is the perfect love of a Creator and Father who cherishes us as His own. We are precious to Him—not because He needs us, but because He created us and desires what is best for us.
The Bible tells us that we are “the apple of His eye” (Psalm 17:8). We are His treasure, valued and protected by His unfailing love. This love is not passive; it actively seeks us out. As David wrote in Psalm 23:6, “Surely Your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.” God’s love is relentless, pure, and sacrificial—He pursued us to the point of death on the cross.
Unlike Gollum’s obsession, God’s pursuit is not about taking but about giving—giving us life, hope, and eternal joy. His love transforms and heals, drawing us into the fullness of who He created us to be.
Do you recognize how deeply and perfectly God loves you? No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done, His love is chasing after you, not to condemn, but to restore and bring you home. He holds you close to His heart and sings out, “My precious!”
