The God Who Hears and Helps

“For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them but has listened to their cries for help.” Psalm 22:24
Psalm 22 is a heartfelt expression of trust in God through pain and suffering. In it, David, the psalmist, openly acknowledges his anguish. Hurt is neither ignored nor dismissed but brought honestly before the Lord.
At the same time, David chooses not to deny or overlook God’s goodness. He recalls God’s steadfast love and faithfulness, declaring his trust in Him even in the midst of hardship. Psalm 22:24 offers us an incredible promise: God does not ignore our cries. He does not belittle our needs or turn His back on our pain. Instead, He empathizes with us, enters into our suffering, listens to our prayers, and brings help.
This psalm is also a profound prophecy about Christ’s suffering on the cross. It vividly describes His pierced hands and feet and the soldiers casting lots for His clothing. Through these words, we see the God who not only hears our cries but takes our pain upon Himself. Jesus, the greater David, bore the full weight of our suffering. He did not deny or avoid it; He entered it fully, showing His deep compassion for humanity.
In your own struggles, know that God is with you. Like David, bring your hurts and cries to Him, trusting that He hears and loves you. Like Christ, entrust yourself to the Father who is near to the brokenhearted. He will not belittle your pain or turn away. Instead, He will carry it with you and for you, because He loves you deeply and is always listening.
Open your heart to Him today. He is the God who sees, the God who cares, and the God who stays.
