I heard of some Christians who as part of their worship service, occasionally worshiped God through a unique dance, linking arms and taking three steps forward and one step back. This dance serves as an act of worship, a physical expression of our spiritual journey.
The journey of faith is rarely a straight path. At times, we move forward with confidence, feeling God’s presence and guidance. Other times, it feels like we’ve taken a step back, weighed down by doubts, struggles, or missteps. Yet, even in those backward moments, God is still with us, working for our good. And we keep moving forward.
Philippians 3:13-14 reminds us, “I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
In our faith journey, three steps forward and one step back doesn’t mean failure—it means growth. Each step back is a chance to pause, to seek God’s strength, and to refocus on His promises. It’s in those moments that we learn to trust Him more deeply, to rely not on our own strength, but on His.
So, if you find yourself feeling like you’ve lost ground, remember: God is still leading you forward. Your journey isn’t measured by how perfectly you walk but by your faithfulness to keep moving. Step by step, He will guide you toward the ultimate prize, shaping you along the way.
Keep going. God’s plan for you is far greater than any setback you encounter on the journey.
