I
have trouble with arrogance and gluttony and I’ll bet you do too. An example of my arrogance is that I think staff should be the ones pulling the lane lines out of the pool for our class instead of us. I have to convince myself to help my classmates who take it upon themselves to get it done.
I remember Pastor Thies’s wife, Mimi, saying as Christians that we don’t have rights to first in line. This is another example of the same thing.
Gluttony isn’t about being overweight. I read once that a petite lady who has to have her toast just the right way is a glutton. That certainly applies to most of us who only eat certain foods instead of being appreciative of what’s on offer.
I think that humility is the answer to these character flaws. I believe it is one of the most difficult attributes that we as Christians are encouraged to adopt.
