“And after you have suffered a little while…” 1 Peter 5.10a
You can’t fool me! That’s the ESV, which is what I usually read. But I think King Jimmy is closer to reality when he says “after that ye have suffered a while…” It’s no small thing that Jim removed the “little”. But remember Whom we are talking about here, the God who sees “a thousand years as one day.” So, the ever-faithful MSV (Marcos Standard Version) may be more on point when it says: “After you have suffered for what will seem like way too long of a time…” Maybe so. But then comes the other side of the coin, in any version you want: “the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself:
- restore,
- confirm,
- strengthen,
- and establish you.” 1 Peter 5.10
Suffering will not have the final say with the Savior at work in your life. Bring it on!
