The Destination is Worth the Journey

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called”. 1 Timothy 6:12

John Eldredge writes in his book, Desire, “We must fight the forces that oppose our becoming whole; we must find our way through difficult and unfamiliar territory to our true home… life is now a battle and a journey. This is the truest explanation for what is going on, the only way to rightly understand our experience.”

When 1 Timothy speaks of enteral life, it speaks not simply of a duration, but of a life of a certain quality with God. A life where we become fully human. A life where we experience who God truly made us to be as creatures who rest in and enjoy His infinite love. Nothing can replace this. Our souls are hardwired to know better, even if our brains sometimes tell us otherwise. Nothing less than the life we were created for with God will do.

It is a battle and a journey to take hold of the eternal life to which we were called. It is a battle of laying down our lives and picking up our cross’s daily. It is a battle of deflecting the lies that we so frequently hear that there is life outside of God.

Keep actively working to trust in the Lord in all things. God longs to give you a quality of life with Him that cannot be found elsewhere. Keep fighting. Keep taking hold of God. Keep resisting sin. You are headed for a destination that is well worth the journey.
