“Most of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
In Scripture we are reminded that God is love. Author Dane Ortlund writes, “If love clothed itself in a human body and went walking around this earth, what would it look like? We don’t have to wonder. This is Jesus.”
An amazing thing about the love that Jesus shared is that He always loved the undeserving. No one earned His love. He never asked anyone to. He simply gave His love as a gift to all.
Sometimes we allow the unkindness of others to prevent us from showing love. We miss out on the joy of experiencing and expressing love because we feel another should deserve it first. This is not the example that Jesus gives. His love was never a gift reserved for a select few, but a gift for all.
If we let God take the disappointments and hurts that can come with relationships, we will be free to give and receive love unconditionally. As we drink from the deep well of God’s own love for us and others, we will find the freedom to love freely.
1 Peter 4:8 calls us to love despite the presence of sin. This verse communicates that love can bring healing and restoration.
Bear this in mind: most people need love the most when they deserve it the least.
